NIDA Teacher Training 2010
NIDA welcomes teachers for professional development and training year round.
All teacher training workshops include morning tea and lunch at NIDA.
Course costs are $135 per day.
**The following courses have been endorsed for the provision of professional development related to element 5 by the NSW Institute of Teachers.
Directing and Stage Managing a Production
Friday 11 & Saturday 12 June 9.30am - 4.30pm
Develop skills in directing and stage management. The directing session includes working with text, design, pre-production and working with actors. The stage management session includes how to prompt, extraction lists, marking up, rehearsal room etiquette and production week.
Teaching Physical Theatre and the Group Performance
Thursday 29 April 9.30 - 4.30pm
This workshop will focus on physical theatre styles such as Lecoq, viewpoints and contact improvisation. Explore devising methods for the group performance through physical theatre exercise and improvisation to develop exciting and innovative devised work with drama students.
Drama in the ESL Classroom
Tuesday 11 May 9.30am - 4.30pm
Explore drama methods to teach ESL students. Improvisation and storytelling techniques will be taught as a basis for language learning. Encourage creativity and language learning as you develop practical drama methods to use in the classroom.
**Teaching Voice
Thursday 20 May 9.30am - 4.30pm
This workshop will cover the essential elements of Voice training for teachers; breath control, pitch, pace and volume as well as vocal care. Through role play explore difficult classroom situations using vocal skills to communicate effectively.
Short Film Making
Friday 18 & Saturday 19 June 9.30am - 4.30pm
Create a short film (Video drama) in a 2 day intensive workshop. Day 1 involves taking an idea into script, visualizing the script through storyboarding and shot lists and practical skills in camera operation and lighting. Day 2 focuses on editing skills on imovie or final cut pro using the footage shot the day before.
$270 or $135 a day
Physical theatre: Clowning, Circus and Mime
Thursday 26 August9.30am - 4.30pm
Explore physical theatre skills through the comic
forms of circus skills, mime and clowning. Through movement, characterization,
stillness, gesture and physical action create physical sequences and skits to
work with drama students in the classroom.
Suitable
for primary and secondary teachers.
HSC Drama: Teaching the Individual Project
Friday
29 October 9.30am - 4.30pm
Consider the directorial concept and the creative process
involved in mentoring a project. The sessions will cover the practical steps
involved in creating a script, video drama and Individual performance project for
HSC Drama.
Suitable
for secondary drama teachers.
Teaching HSC Design
Thursday 18 November 9.30 - 4.30pm
Develop a design concept for a play, which is then realised
by rendering a costume design, creating a model box or designing a poster and program
to mentor HSC students.
