SUMMARY:SOLACE
DESCRIPTION:Milkcrate Theatre\, Box of Birds and Drama NSW invite you to a performance of their upcoming school production SOLACE. \n  \nSOLACE is a stunning new co-production that excavates the psychological and physiological impulses behind the pursuit of comfort. Why do we crave what we crave? What are we seeking comfort from? Are we trying to avoid being alone with ourselves? Or do we just need a break from an increasingly complex and pressurised world? \nComprising text\, movement and sound\, interwoven with interactive digital projection\, SOLACE rides the rugged terrain of the craving that underscores our lives. With humour and irreverence\, darkness and light\, we also question moral judgement associated with the ways people seek comfort – when something is deemed “okay” and “healthy”\, and when we start to use words like “wrong”\, “unhealthy” and “addiction”. Who is making these rules for us\, and how are they ultimately helpful in the end? \nDo not miss this bold new work by two of Australia’s leading arts organisations in the fields of inclusive performance made by\, with and for people with lived experience of homelessness\, mental health issues and disability (Milk Crate Theatre)\, and large scale\, interactive digital projection and physical theatre (Box of Birds / Stalker Theatre). \nDate: 1st December 2023\nTime: 2pm\nVenue: ARA Darling Quarter Theatre\, Sydney\nPrice: Free to Drama NSW Membesr (20 tickets available) \nOnly 20 tickets available\, so get in quick!

SUMMARY:Drama for Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Cahill (2020) writes\, “Given that drama educators chiefly employ collaborative learning methods\, it can be readily argued that their classes provide a particularly rich opportunity to enhance the social and emotional capabilities of their students. In addition\, the drama class can also provide opportunity for enquiry into the human condition\, via its study of character\, context story and the dynamic of human interaction” (p.60).\nIt is timely that we reflect on the power of drama to enhance wellbeing and reclaim human connections for both our students and our staff. \nThis full day workshop is broken into three components: \nWorkshop 1: \nThis workshop will be delivered by the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP).\n \nATYP is the national youth theatre company. They exist to connect young people with the professional theatre industry locally\, regionally and nationally\, drawing the industry together to communicate the impact of involving young people in the arts. There is now an irrefutable body of evidence demonstrating how participation in theatre offers significant benefits to young people in areas including wellbeing\, resilience\, educational outcomes\, community participation and belonging.\nThis workshop will focus on the impact drama and theatre participation has on student mental health and wellbeing. \n\nWorkshop 2: \nThis workshop will be delivered by Milkcrate Theatre.\nMilkcrate Theatre is the leading arts organisation in Australia working in the unique intersection of the arts\, homelessness\, mental health\, and disability\, providing professional development pathways and opportunities for collaborative artists to engage in creative practices as both performers and theatre and film creators of works.\nThis workshop will focus on ways drama can be utilised to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the whole community. \nCompassionate Witnessing Circle: \nThis teacher wellbeing practice will be conducted by Youth Off The Streets.\nYouth Off The Streets is a not-for-profit youth organisation. They work with young people\, their families and communities to create safety\, offer support and provide opportunities to build a positive future. Their services include six registered and accredited independent high schools\, homelessness and housing services\, youth justice support and life skills programs.\nIn this session\, Youth Off The Streets will facilitate a Compassionate Witnessing Circle to open conversation and connection with your colleagues around teacher wellbeing in the drama space. \nParking:  (Centre cannot be seen from the street. Please travel up the long driveway to the centre where you will find parking.) \nCatering: Morning tea and light lunch provided. Will need to get dietary requirements. \nMembers: $140 \nNon Members: $180
