Directing young performers provides a unique opportunity for drama teachers to engage with one of Australia’s most experienced professional theatre directors who has specialised in working with young performers: the Artistic Director of ATYP, Fraser Cor eld. Fraser will unpack his process and lead participants in a practical exploration of core techniques he employs to create professional productions with young performers. Participants will be able to draw on the skills learnt to enrich their teaching, particularly in the areas of script analysis, performance coaching and play building. By gaining a better understanding of the intersection between professional practice and the requirements of drama curriculum, participants will better be able to assist students with meeting their creative goals while satisfying assessment requirements.

Participants will be invited to attend a performance and Q&A prior to the workshop, which will provide context and serve as a demonstration of key creative concepts in practice.

About the Presenter

Fraser Cor eld is a director, dramaturge and the Artistic Director of the national youth theatre company, the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP). With 20 year’s experience running youth arts companies. He is recognised as a leader in the development and presentation of theatre with and for young people in Australia. Fraser is a passionate advocate for new work and has commissioned and developed over fty productions. His work has challenged perceptions of ‘youth theatre’ in Australia, receiving the nation’s highest awards for artistic excellence and placing theatre with and for young people on the national stage. His productions have been presented in every state and territory in Australia as well as the UK, Canada, South Africa, the USA and Japan. Fraser regularly sits on industry panels and advisory groups for all levels of Government, Foundations, advocacy organisations and peak bodies. He lives in Sydney with his two children, Eva and Dylan.
