Embark on an enthralling theatrical Aotearoa odyssey with an overseas tour designed exclusively for Drama NSW Members. Prepare to immerse yourself in the vibrant artistic heart of Wellington, New Zealand, from the 26th of September to the 4th of October, 2024. This fantastically curated journey promises a tapestry of enriching experiences, blending professional development with cultural immersion.

The pinnacle of your expedition is the collaborative 4 day Australia New Zealand Drama Conference, a momentous gathering of drama educators and practitioners, set to ignite collaborative sparks in Pōneke, Wellington, bringing our colleagues together for the first time since 2015.

The tour includes hands-on, curriculum-linked workshops and activities that will not only refine your craft but also inspire your creativity. Dive into the dynamic world of Toi Whakaari, New Zealand’s foremost national drama school, with a workshop tailored for professional advancement. Expand your narrative horizons with a full-day workshop with Script to Screen New Zealand, where the secrets of writing for Film/TV await your discovery.

Opera New Zealand will elevate your understanding of dramatic performance in an exclusive workshop, while a Haka and Performance workshop offers a profound connection with Māori culture. Choose your path at the renowned WETA Workshops with a creative session in special effects, sculpting, or leatherworking — skills that will resonate with your theatrical spirit.

Your cultural journey features a guided exploration of Zealandia, an urban eco-sanctuary where nature and history converge. Wander through Wellington’s eclectic laneways, including the famed Hannahs Laneway, and feast your senses at Hiakai Restaurant with a Māori degustation dinner crafted from indigenous, foraged ingredients.

Be moved by the power of live performance with a theatre visit, connect with community through a school visit, delve into the heritage at Circa Theatre, and savour traditional flavours during a Kinaki tour of Te Papa Museum led by a Māori guide.

Aotearoa Odessey is not merely a tour; it is a professional pilgrimage, a cultural celebration, and a once-in-a-lifetime rendezvous with the soul of New Zealand’s creative core. Secure your spot for an unforgettable fusion of learning, culture, and drama amidst the backdrop of Aotearoa’s capital. Let the curtains rise on an experience you will treasure forever.
